Team Goals/Objectives: To have fun and develop a passion for the game of soccer. Although the level of competition is higher than the recreational league, the goal is still to create a fun, positive experience for the girls while improving their individual skills and teamwork. Success will be measured by individual improvement and accomplishments, as well as continuous effort. Success will not be measured by the win-loss record. At this age, the goal is to develop solid fundamentals, tactics, the mental facet of the game, and respect for the game.
Required Commitment: Attendance at practice two times a week is required. One parent of each player is required to attend a 16-hour referee class. Active participation by all parents in Team Fundraisers, Sponsorship Drive, Team Volunteer Positions, Field and Referee assignments for Tournaments and League Games, Practices, Camps, etc. Everyone MUST participate!!!
Financial Commitment: FSYSL Registration ($110); Team Dues ($100); Uniform Fees ($250); Soccer Clinic/Camp ($150); and Other Team expenses, e.g. registration fees, tournament fees, equipment, awards, team parties, etc. (~$300). Individual commitment can be reduced via sponsorships, fundraisers, and team decision to participate in other functions. Amount does not include travel costs to league games or tournaments.
Uniform: ~$250/player (includes 2 jerseys, shorts, 2 socks, warm up, equipment bag). 2008 costs for new red uniform without new equipment bag and warmups (~70). Also need new blue socks for 2008.
Practice Schedule: Two times a week, 1-½ hours each practice. Practices start in June. Official season: June ~ January
Regular Season: 10- or 11-game season. All games are played on Saturdays starting the Saturday after Labor Day -- half the League games are played at home (Octo); the other half are away (typically no more than an hour or so drive towards the Sacramento Area). District League ends with District Cup Tournament in December or January.
Tournaments: 3 or 4 Tournaments, tentatively scheduled for August, September, October and December. Typically, 2 games played on Saturday and 1 or 2 on Sunday. Travel will range from Fairfield to the northern and eastern Sacramento areas, or farther. One of the tournaments will be an overnighter.
